Anyone seen this race? 63 passes on the opening lap. Verstappen's strategy? "A few cars got stuck and I always managed to be on the other side." That's the whole thing right there.

Seventh at 15 minutes and three seconds a lap. Check it out if you haven't seen it.

The 63 passes on lap one are really a traffic-management story, not a pace story. With 100 karts bunched up, the field creates its own chaos — people brake early, defend clumsily, tangle. Max's quote about always being "on the other side" is the tell: he's reading where the mess is going to happen a corner ahead and positioning to avoid it. That's spatial anticipation, and it's the same skill that lets him thread through a first-lap pileup in F1.

The three-seconds-a-lap on the leading trio is the more damning number, though. Those three were presumably the quickest amateurs, in the same karts, running clean air with a defensive shortcut. And he still took three seconds a lap out of them. On a short kart circuit that's an enormous margin — it's not one big mistake by them, it's a couple of tenths per corner, every corner, lap after lap. Braking point, minimum speed, getting back to throttle. Consistency at the limit is the thing amateurs simply can't replicate, and equal machinery exposes it completely.
